Charco Azul sits inside a canyon carved by a river — steep rock walls, cave-like overhangs and jungle greenery surrounding a glowing blue pool. The contrast between dark rocks and turquoise water makes it feel like a secret paradise tucked inside the island.
You hike down a dirt path, cross shallow rivers, climb over rocks, and finally reach the water — so it feels like a small expedition. It’s accessible but still rugged enough to get your adrenaline going.
The main attraction is jumping into or swimming through the crystal-clear pool surrounded by cliffs. The water’s depth and color make it perfect for exploring, cliff-jumping (in safe spots), and taking incredible photos that look straight out of a travel magazine.
The beach is also magazine worthy and the food is so good you would think your grandmother made it.
Your expert service and intimate knowledge of the island is guaranteed to provide you with the best experience while you are here.
We meet right in front of Crush Juice Bar
Our guide will meet you in front of Crush Juice Bar in Condado. From there we will drive about one hour into the center of the island to a town called Vega Baja. There we will do our first stop in Charco Azul and the Arenales Caves. Charco Azul is nestled along a river/stream corridor where water has gradually carved out rock formations and created a natural pool. The blue color of the water gives the place its name. The river has carved out large rock walls and small cave‐like overhangs There are many Mini waterfalls, streams trickling through the rock, and channels you can walk/swim through. Guest may swim, explore inside the rocks, and some jump from elevated rocks into the pool. The terrain is uneven and rough so good footwear is required. After the hike we will stop to eat a local eatery with delicious puerto rican food and afterwards we will visit one of Puerto Rico’s best beach. Playa de Puerto Nuevo. This full day tour has it all, food, nature and adventure. Dont miss it!
One of the most delicious and unassuming restaurants in the entire island. Tortugueros BBQ is a classic puerto rican food stop with all the local goodies; from rotisserie chicken, to mofongo and ribs. All at an affordable price
The beach lies in Vega Baja, roughly 35-45 minutes west of San Juan by car. It is often also called the “Balneario de Puerto Nuevo. A striking feature: large natural limestone rock formations just offshore that act as a barrier against strong Atlantic swells, creating a calmer swimming area. The rock barrier forms a kind of natural “pool” or lagoon – sheltered, gentler water close to shore, deepening gradually. That makes it ideal for families and less confident swimmers. The sand is golden and the water often has that turquoise, clear look. Because of the barrier rocks, you get a two-zone feel: a calm, safe area, and then beyond the rocks the open ocean and waves. The place is recognized for quality: it has earned a “Blue Flag” certification (or equivalent recognition) for water quality, safety, and environmental management.
