Imagine waking up to total silence, the first rays of sunlight peaking over the sand dunes next to your tent. After a simple breakfast of fresh bread, olives and tea, you will walk through landscapes that most people will never set their eyes on. Sand dunes, dried up river beds and bare mountains showing layers that are millions of years old.
While most tourists come to Merzouga for an overnight stay in one of the many camps behind the dunes, we will take you to locations most people don’t even know exist.
Generally the days look like this:
Start hiking after breakfast, enjoy lunch under a tree, hike some more in the afternoon. Free time to enjoy the sunset in the evenings, discover the surroundings of the respective campsite. Depending on weather conditions there might be a campfire in the evenings to bake fresh bread for dinner/breakfast. You would be helping with setting up camp and also packing up in the morning.
We are happy to provide advice and recommendations for hotels to stay at the night before the trip. We can pick up from any hotel in Merzouga, Hassilabied and Tanamoust. We do NOT pick up from camps.
We will meet up outside Dar Tamaright 8:30 am
Leave Merzouga after breakfast. Hiking today will be mostly in sand, crossing the dunes, lunch in an oasis, set up camp behind the dunes (optional luxury camp)
Today we will hike along a dry river bed, with great views of the dunes all day. Set up camp close to Hassi Begaa
We will explore the local mountains, climb up for an amazing sunset view, same camp as day 2
Today we will cross Erg Znigui and the hills, visit an abandoned village and old mines. Camp in nomad village behind the dunes
On the last day we will cross Erg Chebbi again to return to Merzouga
