During our visit, you will have the opportunity to get to know the Mayan Kaqchiquel culture in an authentic way and the day-to-day life of local women who seek to make their routines their job. They will share their passions and concerns with you and we hope that you can too, to learn and enjoy diversity. Our experience is special because we are based on a regenerative tourism model, which can preserve culture and provide new ways of working for the future of women in Santa Cruz, having a 100% impact on the local economy.
Wait for the women leaders at the main dock of Santa Cruz la Laguna, in front of the boats, at the main dock.
The women of the local team welcome us at the main pier and we walk around Santa Cruz, from the shore to the community, to learn about the customs, lifestyle and routines of the local people. We will know the main road from the pier to the local house where the workshop will be held. Depending on the house we will know one area or another. It is possible to go up in a tuktuk if the traveler prefers.
The main venue will be a local house, depending on the shifts of the women on the team. The following activities will take place there: TRADITIONAL CUISINE: We cook together tourists and women in a wood-fired kitchen in a home, to learn how to cook typical recipes, such as tamale, tamalitos, tortillas or puliki. Then we enjoyed eating what we made together. CRAFT WORKSHOPS: Introduction to fabric making and/or handmade jewelry. We learn to lay the initial thread for sewing, create our first piece of jewelry and dress in traditional Santa Cruz dress. TEMAZCAL EXPERIENCE: We disconnect and live the local experience of temazcal use, a low adobe house where steam baths are taken.
