    The 2nd Tunnel

The 2nd Tunnel was discovered on March 19, 1975, during a military operation. It is the second of four major underground tunnels constructed by North Korean forces that were designed to infiltrate South Korea. Inside, traces of TNT and cement walls built by North Korean soldiers remain, providing insight into the construction process at the time. The ceiling and walls bear evidence of explosive use, showing North Korea’s attempts to penetrate South Korea through underground bedrock.

The railway tracks in front of the station, which abruptly end, along with the bullet marks and rusted parts of the war-damaged locomotive, vividly convey the tragedies of that time. Woljeong-ri Station is not merely a ruin but has been reimagined as a symbol of hope for the reunification and peace of the Korean Peninsula.
