Chengdu is a well-known city in southern China for the giant pandas. Dujiangyan Panda Base is another panda base and less popular one situated about 60km from Chengdu. Dujiangyan Irrigation System is a UNESCO cultural heritage that still works nowadays to irrigate the huge area in Sichuan Province. This private day tour will let you start from your centrally located Chengdu hotel to Dujiangyan city by a nice charted car, where you will view the cute giant pandas feeding in the morning. Then you will explore the fantastic Dujiangyan Irrigation System with your local guide to learn its history and working theory. Moreover, Chinese lunch is included. At 8:00am, you will be picked up from your centrally located Chengdu hotel lobby, then take about one hour car ride to Dujiangyan Panda Base, which is less popular base without crowded visitors. It is better to view the active pandas in the morning while feeding time.
After lunch, you will head to the famous Dam, Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a massive project originally constructed around 256 BC by the Qin state. Located on the Min River tributary of the Yangtze, the system was designed to conserve water and control flooding, and still irrigates 2,046 square miles (5,300 sq km) of land today. Your guide will explain how the immense undertaking altered the Sichuan basin into a region of abundance while eliminating floods from nearby areas.
