Explore Sintra on foot with an 8 km hike designed for travelers who want to experience Sintra without having to stop and visit the castles. Instead of waiting in lines or spending time inside monuments, you’ll stay outdoors, soaking up the fresh air, forest trails, and panoramic viewpoints while passing Sintra’s most iconic landmarks.

Over roughly 3 hours, we’ll hike through Sintra’s beautiful landscape and enjoy views of Castelo dos Mouros, the colorful Palácio da Pena, Quinta da Regaleira, and the historic Sintra National Palace. It’s an active, fun way to discover the magic of Sintra—perfect if you love nature, photography, and a more adventurous, immersive experience.

What to expect

Your hike starts with an exciting climb to Castelo dos Mouros, where ancient walls and panoramic valley views set the tone. We’ll then follow forest trails through Sintra’s hills, passing the colorful Palácio da Pena—perfect for photos—before continuing toward the magical Quinta da Regaleira, known for its gardens, symbols, and hidden tunnels. We’ll also pass the iconic **Sintra National Palace** with its famous chimneys.

This is a 3-hour moderate-to-challenging hike with plenty of uphill and downhill sections, best for active travelers (not suitable for low mobility). We’ll finish with a relaxing stop at a local café in the village.
