Beyond the royal complex lies the religious section with two grand gateways: the Royal Gate and the magnificent Buland Darwaza, built to mark Akbar’s victory over Gujarat. Within the complex, you will also visit the Jama Masjid and the white marble mausoleum of the Sufi saint, Hazrat Sheikh Salim Chishti. Lunch After exploring Fatehpur Sikri, enjoy lunch at a local Indian restaurant before proceeding to the Bird Sanctuary.
Visit Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary After lunch, drive about 20 km to the renowned Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary. An expert naturalist will accompany you on a rickshaw ride through the park. Spanning 29 sq. km, the sanctuary is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including 365 species of birds, 376 species of plants, 40 species of fish, and several reptiles such as lizards, turtles, and snakes. Here, you can spot resident birds like spoonbills, egrets, white ibis, painted storks, and purple moorhens, along with migratory species such as the Siberian crane.
Visit Deeg Palace After visiting the sanctuary, drive 32 km to Deeg, the former capital of the Jat rulers before they shifted to Bharatpur. The palace was originally built by Badan Singh but faced repeated attacks. His son, Maharaja Surajmal, later fortified it with strong defenses. The architecture reflects the grandeur of Mughal courts, featuring Charbagh-style gardens with fountains and tree-lined avenues that helped cool the surroundings. Two large water tanks, Gopal Sagar and Roop Sagar, supply water to the palace and its fountains.
