Everest Base Camp Drive-In Drive-Out Trek is the ideal option for those who wish to avoid the Lukla flights. Without the need for any internal flights, it follows the same path as the earliest climbers and trekkers in the Everest region. The 4WD drive allows us to bypass the possibility of delays due to bad weather, and the gradual ascent over multiple days provides ample opportunity for acclimatization. Combining high adventure with incredible Himalayan views and cultural experience, Ace the Himalaya has designed this trek for intrepid adventurers.
Trekking along the Dudh Koshi river to the Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar and Tengboche Monastery, with a breathtaking view of the Himalayan mountains all the way up to Everest Base Camp, is an experience like no other.
Our airport representative will be waiting for you outside the terminal building holding Ace the Himalaya signboard. Once he receives you, he will direct you our tourist vehicle which will bring you to the hotel.
We will pick you up early in the morning and start the drive to Kharikhola in a 4WD. It will take us 12/13 hours depending upon the traffic and the road condition. The road until Salleri is paved in concrete. This section of the drive lasts for about 8 to 9 hours. From Salleri to Kharikhola, the 4WD goes through dirt road. The ride is bumpy. It lasts for about 3 to 4 hours. This particular section from Salleri to Jubing gets affected by the monsoon, so vehicles can use this part only in dry seasons. On our long drive through the Himalayan foothills, we will be greeted with splendid views.
From Kharikhola, it is around a seven-hour walk to Paiyun. We will go down to the Dudh Koshi River. The trail is mostly ups and downs. We will see mountain peaks such as Numbur, Pikey, etc along the way.
We will descend down to Surkhe village, which is an hour or so behind Lukla. From Surkhe, we will take a winding trail and arrive at Choplung. This is a point where the path from Lukla meets the main Everest Base Camp trail. After a few hours of gradual walking, we will reach our destination village of Phakding.
Today, we walk the trails along the Dudh Koshi river towards the Sherpa Capital Namche Bazaar. It is the administrative hub of the Everest Region. You will also cross the infamous Hillary bridge along the trails uphill to Namche.
Acclimatization hike to Hotel Everest View takes about 3 to 4 hours and is very essential to get accustomed to the high altitude trekking days ahead.
The trails right out of Namche are easy up to Phungi Thanga where we stop for lunch. Then an uphill trek takes you to Tengboche. You can spend time here exploring the famous Tengboche Monastry.
Today, we trek down to Deboche through a beautiful Rhododendron forest. From there, we trek through beautiful trails to Dingboche.
Today we have another day of acclimatization on the trek. We hike to Nangkartshang peak from where you see an amazing 360 degree view of the mountains.
We start our trek leaving behind Dingboche towards Thukla. Crossing the Thukla Pass, you will come across the memorial site in honor of many fallen Everest climbers. Then, we continue our trek to Lobuche.
The trails out of Lobuche are mesmerizing as we walk below the Himalayan giants. We reach Gorakshep for lunch and continue our trek to make it to Everest Base Camp. We trek back to Gorakshep for the day.
Early morning, we hike to Kalapatthar to witness the splendid view of sunrise over Mount Everest. After breakfast, we start our trek back and end the trek for the day back at Pheriche.
We descend down to the town of Namche from Pheriche crossing Pangboche, Deboche, and Tengboche.
At first, we walk down the last part which we climbed so hard on the day when we reached Namche Bazaar on the way up. Then it is an easy walk to Phakding where we will have our lunch. From this point, the trail slowly climbs towards Lukla where we rest for the day.
Most treks in the Everest region ends here with a flight back from Lukla. However, in this drive-trek, we will make our way back to Kharikhola which is roughly 6 to 7 hours of downhill trek.
The trek ends and we drive back to Kathmandu the same route through Salleri. Once you are back in Kathmandu, we drop you off at your hotel where can take a much needed rest. In the evening, we host a farewell dinner in a fine restaurant.
