The Valley of the Queens in Luxor is the ancient burial site of royal women, princes, and high-ranking nobles from Egypt’s New Kingdom (circa 1560–1130 BC). Known in antiquity as Ta-Set-Neferu—“The Place of Beauty” or “Place of the Royal Children”—this sacred valley includes over 100 tombs, including those of Queen Nefertari and other royals. Located near the Valley of the Kings and Deir el-Medina, it may have been chosen for its proximity and a nearby sacred grotto dedicated to the goddess Hathor. The valley became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
