The Medici Chapels were added to the church after the 15th century as a burial place of all the principal members of the Medici family from Cosimo il Vecchio to Cosimo III. They are an extraordinary example of a funerary monument, designed and decorated by sculptures by Michelangelo, such as the Madonna and Child.
