This tour includes everything you need to enjoy a fantastic experience riding the scenic Karangahake Gorge and the historic townships of Waihi and Paeroa.
You'll be provided with premium quality e-bikes that are custom fitted to your needs before your ride. Lunch and morning afternoon teas include a mix of home baked goods and healthy snacks. All transport to and from the trail is provided in a comfortable modern air-conditioned shuttle van with your experienced guide at the wheel.

The Karangahake gorge is surrounded by lush native bush and the whole area is steeped in gold mining history so this all provides a very special and unique riding experience.

Guests are picked up from their desired Auckland location and transported by air-conditioned shuttle van to the trail start in Waikino, Waikato area. Travel time to the trail is around two hours from Auckland. Drop-off after the ride also involves a two hour shuttle journey back to Auckland

    Waikato Region

    Travel through the Waikato region to trail start in Waikino, in comfortable, air-conditioned shuttle van. Take advantage of the relaxing trip to take in the stunning greens of the backcountry farms and fields within the Waikato area.

    Ride the well groomed and easy riding cycle trail from Waikino to the historic gold mine town of Waihi. Along the way you can view many of the historic sites from the peak of the Martha Gold mine's operating days including the Victoria Batteries where gold ore was broken down and processed before being transported out on the railway that now forms part of the trail you'll ride. You can take an optional tour to the Waikino museum and get a guided tour under the gold processing urns that were used to heat up gold ore before being processed. Ride beside the beautiful natural bubbling river all the way to Waihi. View one of the most iconic and historic backcountry townships in the Waikato area and then take a tour around the gold mine rim.

    Follow your guide as they take you on a ride through the township of Waihi and up around the rim of the impressive Martha gold mine pit. At its peak operating time this was the second largest gold mine in the world and is now a spectacular site to view from the top of the pit rim. Your knowledgeable guide will offer you little tidbits of history to accompany the impressive sights to be seen on this mini side trip for your tour including viewing the massive water pump tower that was used to keep the mine shafts clear of water.

    Ride the remainder of the Karangahake Gorge trail, through to Paeroa. Along the way you'll ride through one of the longest cycle accessible tunnels in the country, at 1.1km long the Karangahake tunnel is steeped in history and is an exciting element of the ride. Also take note of the historic railway bridges that you cross and marvel at the engineering that was achieved more than one hundred years ago to support the railway in this area. The Karangahake Gorge is surrounded by lush native forest that shows off the spectacular natural beauty of backcountry New Zealand, offering a truly unique riding experience.
