Xochimilco, an agricultural area 28 km (27 miles) south of Mexico City, where many of the city's flowers are grown. In Aztec times, this valley was a lake. Find out how the local people, as an alternative to the lack of farmland, developed islands with floating earth-covered mats and used them as gardens called chinampas. Today, these gardens are an ecological reserve and belong to the UNESCO World Heritage list and one of Frida Kahlo's favorite places. Here you will not only get information about its origins, which date back to pre-Hispanic times, but you will also be able to enjoy a traditional trajinera ride.
During the visit to this beautiful picturesque town our guide will tell you about the history and culture that surrounds this magical place, you can walk through its cobbled streets and enjoy its colonial architecture, as well as visit the Mercado del Carmen, restaurants, shops and must-see mansions from this area of CDMX.
After knowing San Angel you will visit the wonderful neighborhood of Coyoacán, whose name in Nahuatl means place of coyotes. Here, our guide will give you an explanation about the origin and importance of this neighborhood and its surroundings.
During our visit to Coyoacán you will have an hour of free time from 2 pm to 3 pm to eat or visit the Frida Kahlo house-museum (admission not included), so we recommend buying your tickets online at this time. If you buy your tickets you will have the opportunity to learn about the intense relationship between Frida, her work and her house, the place where she was born and died. Although she lived in different places in Mexico City and abroad when she married Diego Rivera, Frida always returned to her house in Coyoacán.
