We start the day continuing through the forest until the trail opens into high moorland. We may get our first views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks - two of the three volcanic peaks that make up the summit of Kilimanjaro.
This is an extra day meant for acclimatization and can be spent day hiking on Mawenzi Ridge. The unique landscape offers motivating views of Kibo and Mawenzi. After spending a few moments exploring the area we head back to Horombo Hut.
Today, following our morning meal, the team will embark on a journey towards the Kibo Hut, situated at an elevation of 4,700 meters (approximately 15,419 feet). The trek itself is relatively manageable; it is vital to maintain a suitable pace to conserve your energy for the ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro. Upon arriving at the camp, a nourishing lunch will be provided, and we strongly advise making the most of your rest by taking ample naps, refraining from strenuous activities, and staying well-hydrated.
At night, your team will set out from Kibo Hut, which stands at an elevation of 4,700 meters (about 15,419 feet), embarking on the journey to reach the pinnacle of Kilimanjaro known as Uhuru Peak, soaring to 5,895 meters (around 19,340 feet). This segment of the Marangu Route isn't particularly challenging in terms of technical difficulty, but due to the high altitude, even regular physical exertion can feel demanding. For the final push to the summit, we pair two climbers with a single guide. The guide's role includes monitoring the climbers' physical well-being and offering encouragement and motivation to support their ultimate ascent. Upon your successful achievement of Uhuru Peak, you have the option to descend to the closest glacier if desired. Following this, you will return to Kibo Camp and, after a two-hour break, continue your descent to Horombo Hut, located at an altitude of 3,720 meters (approximately 12,205 feet).
A last gently walk of the trek through rainforest to to Marangu Gate, giving farewell to the crew and transfer to hotel for ovenight stay.
