Making our way through the rural countryside of East Iceland, we’ll travel along the picturesque Jökuldalur valley to our first stop, the Rjúkandi waterfall, where a short, accessible path leads to the falls—a perfect introduction to Iceland’s natural beauty.
From there, we continue to Stuðlagil Canyon, home to one of the largest and most breathtaking basalt column formations in the country. This photogenic canyon is especially captivating in early summer, when the Jökulsá river runs a striking turquoise, shifting to a silvery-grey by August as the Hálslón reservoir at Kárahnjúkar releases overflow water.
Optional add-ons include visits to Vök Baths or The Reindeer Park.

We will start the tour by driving to Rjúkandi waterfall in Jökuldalur, where there is a short and accessible walk up to the waterfall. From there we will go to Stuðlagil, on the east side of Jökulsá.
Stuðlagil is one of the largest and most beautiful rock formations in the country and has extremely photogenic scenery. Especially when the water in the river is clear but at the beginning of August the river changes from turquoise to greyish, when there is an overflow at Hálslón by Kárahnjúkar. Just over half an hour easy walk to the gorge where we will take time to enjoy the nature and snacks. The total time at Stuðlagil is about 2-3 hours.
