Arrive on Haida Gwaii at the Sandspit Airport with a private shuttle awaiting you to transport you to your accommodation located in the Haida community of Skidegate. You will have time to check into your room, then be picked up to travel to the GuuhlGa Siiwaay K'iiwaay/Spirit Lake Trail to participate in a cultural interpretive hike, followed by a traditional Haida meal in an Elder's home.
Start the day at one of the most mysterious and photographed sights on Graham Island: Balance Rock; followed by a pole tour at the Haida Heritage Centre, then a fascinating look into Haida Gwaii culture at the Saahlinda Naay Haida Gwaii Museum.
Travel to Northern Graham Island to meet Haida artists in their place of work to learn about the process involved to carve a pole - from selecting a tree and all that is involved until it is raised. Visit Haida art galleries and the Dixon Entrance Maritime Museum. Travel to North Beach to view the magnificent pole located at the Hiellen Longhouse Village, then participate in an easy hike to the blowhole and a moderate hike up Tow Hill with a view to the east and west.
Reach for the top, as you climb Mt Genevieve (729 m) through old growth forest to the 'nose' for unobstructed panoramic views - north, south, east, and west! The Sleeping Beauty trail is a challenging 3-hour vertical hike with opportunities for stair climbing and rope climbing. Explore this beautiful landscape, abundant with unique plants that call Mt. Genevieve home.
Get out onto the water with an expert guide on this two-hour stand up paddleboard tour on the enchanting Tll.aal Gandlaay Tlell River. This tour promises an unforgettable ebb and flow adventure along the quiet waters of the Tll.aal, ending with a gourmet meal at the Haida House restaurant. The most common sounds you will hear will be that of your paddle blade as it eases in through the water with each stroke you take, only to be contested by the cries of an eagle. Following your paddle we will explore art galleries and gift shops in the area.
Travel to Sandspit for a short easy walk on the Louise Dover Memorial trail located in the Damaxyaa Conservancy, then savour a farewell lunch prior to heading to the airport for your departure.
