In the field of Aso, one of the world's largest calderas and a national park, you will participate in a variety of activities for three days to refresh your mind and body. Travel by car is kept to a minimum. We will use low-environmental-impact E-MTBs, horses, and your own feet to give you a solid feel for the nature and lifestyle of the Aso caldera. You can also enjoy wellness time with activities such as yoga and zazen. In addition, you will cleanse your body from the inside out by taking a bath in the free-flowing hot springs and eating healthy meals, mainly made with fresh vegetables.
We will meet in front of the ticket gate of JR Aso Station.
On a low environmental impact E-MTB, we will pass through the normally inaccessible pastures and climb up to the active volcano "Aso Nakadake", which is 1503m above sea level. Even first-timers can enjoy the ride thanks to the electric assist. A guide will lead you through the entire tour, so you can enjoy the grasslands with peace of mind. You will be able to see the crater and lava bridges up close. The tour includes a macrobiotic lunch using ingredients grown in Aso, and yogurt and sweets nurtured in the grasslands of Aso.
At the beginning of the trip, we will go to the Aso Grassland Learning Center. Here, you can learn about the overall outline of the three-day tour, Aso Caldera, the active volcano Aso, and the characteristics of the "Thousand Year Grassland" in an easy-to-understand manner.
After confirming the weather conditions, we will leave the hotel early in the morning and head for a special place in the grassland. We will enjoy yoga in the grasslands, soaking up the morning sun with our entire body.
We will visit Gokuraku Zenji Temple, the family temple of the Aso family, and experience Zen meditation. This temple was located on top of Mt. Aso and has a long history where ascetics used to practice asceticism. After the Zen meditation, we will visit the temple to see the Buddhist statues, etc. while listening to the priest's explanation. After the meditation, we will have a lunch of vegetarian food made with homemade vegetables and green tea.
We will take a stroll around the Aso Shrine and the town in front of the shrine, visiting the spring water and the shopping area. There are many unique attractions here, such as water fortunes and sweets made with spring water.
You will enjoy riding your own horse in a grassy field with a panoramic view of Mount Aso, Mount Kujyu and other mountains. It is said that grazing has been practiced in the grasslands for more than 1,000 years, and you can feel the nature and life of Aso with all five senses. If the weather is good, you can also see the sunset over the grassland horizon.
Aso's knowledgeable guides will take you on an easy-to-understand and enjoyable tour of the Aso Caldera from its birth to the present, from the perspectives of volcanoes, geology, history, culture, and beliefs. By walking down the stone-folded path that descends the northern outer rim of the mountain and entering the caldera on your own, you can really feel the size of the caldera, one of the largest in the world. You can also enjoy spots related to the history, culture, and beliefs of Aso, where people have lived in the caldera for over 2,000 years. On the way, we will have a tea time with yogurt and sweets grown in the grasslands of Aso.
