Small and silent, San Romao welcomes the pilgrim with its simple charm and natural surroundings, offering a well-deserved rest after the first day of walking.

    From San Romao Da Retorta to Melide

    (28 km.) The stage of San Romao da Retorta a Melide is one of the longest on the Camino Primitivo, but also one of the most rewarding. The road winds along rural paths, crossing medieval bridges and small villages full of authenticity. Upon arriving in Melide, the Primitive Way joins the French Way, and the pilgrim atmosphere becomes more lively. Melide is also famous for its octopus, so this stage culminates with an excellent opportunity to enjoy Galician cuisine.

    Melide to Arzúa

    The stage from O Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela is the last of the Camino, and is lived with a mixture of excitement, expectation and joy. The trail runs through lush forests and villages such as Amenal and Lavacolla, where pilgrims prepared before entering the holy city. Upon reaching Mount Do Gozo, the Cathedral Towers appear for the first time on the horizon, marking the beginning of the end. From there, the road descends to the heart of Santiago, where the Plaza del Obradoiro and the Cathedral welcome the pilgrim with an unforgettable sense of achievement.
