Join our tour from Mexico City to visit the Izta-Popo National Park, hike the third-highest summit in Mexico, enjoy impressive views of the smoking Popocapetl Volcano and get acquainted with the history and rich gastronomic traditions of the nearby Amecameca municipality.

BOOKING
For conservation purposes, national park authorities require advance registration for each visitor, which takes up to one week. If you book less than a week before the tour, you risk being unable to access the main trail. In such cases, we may substitute it with an alternative hike without prior notice or refund.

If you booked a private tour, we will pick you up and drop you off at your accommodation or any other convenient place in Mexico City.

In the morning, leave Mexico City and enjoy a picturesque 2h drive through the Valley of Mexico before reaching Paso de Cortes. This mountain pass between the Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes lies at an altitude of 3400 m. Finally, reach La Joya, a high mountain hut at an elevation of 3977 m above sea level that is connected by one of the highest mountain roads in the country. This is a starting point for our intermediate-level hike up the slopes of the Iztaccihuatl volcano that both novices and those with more hiking experience will enjoy.

During the hike, take memorable pictures and enjoy the tranquility and severe beauty of this mountainous place. Once ready, descend and go to the nearby town Amecameca to explore its pretty historic center and try some of its best food specialties in a local market. At the end of the tour, get back to our vehicle and relax on the way back to Mexico City.

- WHAT TO TAKE WITH YOU: personal ID (or a copy: digital or in paper); personal travel insurance; comfortable clothes and (preferably) hiking shoes (no special equipment is needed for this hike); light jacket (it might be chilly in the early morning, see the weather on the day of the tour here:; hat/cap, sunscreen, and sunglasses (the sun is pretty strong anywhere in Mexico); cash (if you’d like to buy something as not all merchants accept bank cards in Mexico); good mood and curiosity (☺).
- DEPARTURE LOCATION & TIME: ◘ Small-group tour: Fixed (see tour options for more info). ◘ Private tour: Flexible (see tour options for more info). Private pick-up and drop-off are included: please indicate the exact pick-up time and location during your booking (e.g. in the "Special Requirements" field). We can pick you up from hotels and apartments situated in the following parts of Mexico City: Centro Historico, Reforma Avenue, Polanco, Condesa, and Roma; other more remote locations might involve an extra fee paid in advance via a payment link (~20-50 USD based on the distance). Default departure times (which can be seen when choosing a tour date) can be adjusted upon your request. We can start the tour almost any time (when the main attractions of the tour are open) but due to traffic conditions in Mexico City, earlier departures are always preferred.
- LANGUAGE(S): ◘ Small-group tour: English & Spanish (our guides are bilingual). ◘ Private tour: All our tours are led by local bilingual (at least Spanish & English) guides. Some of them speak other languages (e.g. French, German, Italian, Portuguese) but those depend on availability and cannot be fully guaranteed. Thus, if you want to have your tour in a language other than Spanish or English, please kindly inquire in advance before booking.
- TOUR DURATION: The standard duration of the tour, as advertised in its description, is calculated from the moment of pick-up till drop-off.
- CONTACT: Our guide will meet/pick you up at the agreed time and location and might need to contact you by phone, so please kindly provide a valid phone number during your booking.
- VEHICLE: The type of vehicle used in the tour depends on the size of your group and may include a car, 7-seater, or minivan.
- PRICE: ◘ Small-group tour: Fixed price/person. ◘ Private tour: The price/person varies and depends on the number of participants in your booking.
- TERMS & CONDITIONS: By booking this activity ("Tour") with the tour organizer ("Company"), you ("Customer") accept to: ● comply with all laws and regulations of the country (countries) where the Tour takes place; ● follow the instructions of the Company and its representatives; ● take all measures to procure your own safety on the Tour including, but not limited to, use of safety devices (including face masks, seat-belts, harnesses, and helmets), obeying posted signs, and oral or written warnings from the Company's representatives regarding health and safety; ● provide information about pre-existing medical conditions that may affect your ability to participate in the Tour or have a negative impact on the experience of others on the Tour; ● have personal travel insurance covering injury, emergency medical expenses, and damage or loss of your personal property, valid for the whole duration of the Tour; ● waive responsibility of the Company and its representatives for any personal health and property damage that may occur during the Tour; ● allow the Company to use any media content created by its representatives during the Tour for marketing-related purposes.

- HIKING ROUTE: By default, we follow the standard route described in the tour description. However, due to unfavorable weather or a limited number of daily visitor permits in Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park (if permits are unavailable on the day of your booking, we won’t be able to reach the standard trailhead by car and will need to hike 2 hours from the park entrance), the route may change without prior notice.
