Unspoilt nature at the foot of the Alps!
We’ll start today’s fairytale at Lake Bohinj, the largest natural lake of glacial origin in Slovenia. Maybe Bohinj lacks Bled’s glamour, but it’s less crowded and in many ways more authentic. We are going to follow the main tributary river Savica, through unspoilt forests of NP Triglav, taking us up to magical Waterfall Savica, very unique one among world waterfalls – its watercourse is divided into two parts in the hidden undergrounds. The famous A-shaped waterfall normally comes into sight at an altitude of 836 m and is 78 m high.

National Park Triglav covers almost 5% of Slovenian territory. .
Bohinj and surrounding area are known as one of the most interesting Slovenian regions as far as ethnology and natural protected area is concerned. We’ll pass the picturesque villages along Sava River passing by many Toplar hayracks, spotting bee hives as region is famous for its beekeepers and local honey production. Short stop at lake Bohinj , nested in the heart of the Julian Alps, this jewel is a precious natural resource and at the same time offers endless opportunities for outdoor activities. More than a third of the water flows into the lake from the Karst springs under the lake surface along the northern shore. During heavy rainfall, the Karst waters gush out as the Govic spring on the Pršivec hillside.
Your time spent in Bohinj would not be complete without a visit to one of Slovenia’s most famous and the most scenic waterfalls. To reach the waterfall it’s a roughly 30 min. walk up a partially paved and well maintained forest path with about 500 steps with benches and vista stops alongside. The waterfall itself drops a towering 78m into a large water sink. An inspirational sight, it has often been written about by well-known Slovenian poets and writers.
