Small group approach with carefully planned time, where experienced local tour operator’s chauffeur guide will collect you at designated location for an informative ride of 3 hours through South East Slovenia to Croatian border and further to one of Croatia's most beautiful national parks Plitvice to start your unique experience.
The National Park covers a total area of 300 square kilometers, whilst the lakes join together over a distance of eight kilometers. There’s also quite an altitude difference – the highest point is at 1,280m, the lowest at 380m – although the total height difference between the lakes themselves is only 135m. (Veliki Slap, the largest waterfall, is 70m tall.) The lake system is comprised of 16 named and several smaller unnamed lakes, cascading one into the next. Due to the geological substrate and characteristic hydrogeological conditions, the lake system has been divided into the Upper and Lower lakes. The Lower Lakes, consisting of the lakes Milanovac, Gavanovac, Kaluđerovac and Novakovića Brod, were formed in permeable limestone substrate, cut into a deep canyon with steep cliffs. The lakes end in the impressive waterfalls Sastavci, with the Korana River springing under the base of the falls.
Upon arrival to Plitvice you’ll start a tour of the lakes protected area; well marked wooden paths will take you along picturesque lakes divided in two sections, Upper and Lower lakes. National Park offers visitors seven different routes to tour the lake system, and four hiking trails. During November through March only Lower lakes are accessible to visitors.
After an interesting full day experience of this UNESCO gem we will take a ride back to Slovenia and return arrive to Ljubljana in evening hours. Drop off will be at same location as pick up.
