The "Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi" is one of the most beautiful corners of Italy. Located between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna is 36.846 hectares wide.
In the park there is a rich fauna of animals such as wolves, deers and boars and some of the finest beech forests you can see, in fact, the Sasso Fratino integral reserve inside the park is a UNESCO site.
The park can offer untouched and stunning nature, but also rich and interesting history.

Meeting and pickup
We will meet in front of Chiesa di San Martino in Castagno d'Andrea. In front of the church, you can find a grocery store, and a café is only 50 meters from the church. From there we will continue for 15 minutes by car until we reach the start of the trail.
What to expect
In just one hour by car from Florence you will be able to reach this worldwide famous National Park and its integral reserve forests.
We will meet at 9 in front of the San Martino Church in Castagno d'Andrea 8. The birthplace of the famous painter Andrea del Castagno). From there we will continue for 15 minutes by car until we reach the beginning of the trail.
Hiking through magical beech forests we will reach the two highest peaks of the park, Monte Falterona (1654 mt./5426 ft.) and Monte Falco (1658 mt./5439 ft.) enjoying a stunning view from the top. Descending from the mountain we will encounter the source of the Arno river and a hidden and sacred lake of the Etruscans called the Lake of the idols.
