ancient city tapping is protected by ramparts built in ocher-coloured rammed earth, thus constituting a wall steeped in history.
the structure of its walls has evolved under the different dynasties that reigned in Morocco in the past: the Almohads, the Merinids and especially the Saadians. the ramparts encircling the city are about 8km long, thus counting 130 towers and 19 connected corner bastions.
