After the bazaar, walk uphill to the Kruja Castle, Albania’s symbol of resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Inside the castle, visit the Skanderbeg Museum, which honors Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, and his legendary 25-year defense of the country. Wander through the castle grounds, enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding.
Continue the tour inside the Ethnographic Museum, located in a beautifully preserved 17th-century house. Here, you’ll explore exhibits displaying traditional Albanian life, from agricultural tools to handcrafted textiles, and learn about the cultural heritage of the Kruja region.
Your first stop in Shkoder is Rozafa Castle, perched on a hilltop overlooking the city and the meeting point of the Drin, Buna, and Kir rivers. Explore the castle’s ruins and enjoy panoramic views of the city and the surrounding natural beauty.
After visiting Rozafa Castle, head to the city center for a walking tour of Shkoder. Stroll down Pedonale, the city’s famous pedestrian street lined with cafes, shops, and 19th-century architecture. Visit the landmarks showcasing Shkoder’s renowned religious tolerance, including a Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, and Mosque situated close to each other. A short drive will take you to Lake Skadar, the largest lake in the Balkans, shared between Albania and Montenegro. Visit the charming village of Shiroke, nestled on the lakeshore, known for its peaceful surroundings and local fish cuisine.
