Asakusa Zori-Making: Craft Your Own Traditional Sandals

1 hour (approximately)
Offered in: Japanese

Step into the world of traditional Japanese craftsmanship with a hands-on "Hanao-Suge" (strap-fitting) workshop. Learn how the intricate decorative straps (Hanao) are expertly attached to traditional wooden clogs (Geta) or woven sandals (Zori)—a art form perfected over centuries.

Under the guidance of an expert local artisan, you’ll select your favorite combination of footwear base and strap, then master the technique of fitting them together.

The result? A pair of custom-made, perfectly fitted traditional Japanese footwear tailored specifically to your feet.

More than just a unique keepsake, this immersive experience offers a rare glimpse into Japan's rich cultural heritage. Whether you’re traveling solo, with family, or on a romantic getaway, you’ll leave with an authentic piece of Japanese tradition—and a memorable story to share back home.

No prior experience needed. Our friendly master artisan will support you every step of the way.
