An affordable cultural experience course to enjoy traditional Japanese culture at a reasonable price! And this lesson offers you a unique double experience: the making of a traditional Japanese mini-garden, and a lesson in the art of perfecting your matcha.

Beautiful Japanese gardens can be seen in temples and other places in Japan. Zen Garden is a type of garden that symbolically expresses natural scenery such as mountains, rivers, and the sea without using water, and is attractive for its “beauty of space” and “lean design. You can create your own original Japanese garden using miniature Zen Garden.

In the Matcha tea experience, you will make your own Matcha and enjoy it with seasonal Japanese sweets. As a take-home souvenir, you will receive a basic miniature karesansui kit to continue enjoying this tradition at home.

What to expect

1. Meet directly at the Osaka Culturarium Tempozan (2nd floor).
2. The guide will be waiting for you at the entrance.
3. The activity will start with the “Zen Garden Crafting Experience” (Approx. 25 Minutes):
- Start by smoothing the sand and clearing your mind to enter a state of "nothingness."
 ↓
- Create small and large stones to represent mountains.
 ↓
- Add patterns to the sand to represent flowing rivers or ripples, freely expressing the "flow."
 ↓
- You can also add trees, torii gates, and various other objects to enhance the garden.
 ↓
- There is no right answer. Express the beauty of Japan with your own creativity and let your heart guide you.
4. The lesson will continue with the “Matcha Tea Experience” (Approx. 15 Minutes):
- You will learn how to make Matcha Tea.
 ↓
- Follow the Sensei's instructions to learn how to use the tea whisk.
 ↓
- The guide will also give you tips on preparing hot water and the importance of having the right temperature.
 ↓
- Once the tea has been prepared, enjoy it with Japanese sweets.
