This tour shows participants the stunning nature and cultural history of the World Heritage listed site, demonstrating the traditional techniques used across the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape to harvest eels and fish, as well as a visit to the Budj Bim National Park where the Gunditjmara creation story began.
Tours start from the Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre (Lake Condah) - Vaghans Road, Breakaway Creek, VIC, 3303. Please arrive 15 mins prior to the tour start time.
Meet at the Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre, and travel around 20 mins to the next location.
Your guide will show you extensive kooyang (eel) traps, stone channels, remnants of ancient stone house sites and kooyang smoking trees. Then travel around 20 mins to the next location.
See ancient Budj Bim volcanic crater, now Lake Surprise, take a guided bush walk of the park and go inside one of Budj Bim’s lava caves. Then travel around 20 mins back to the Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre.
