    Shusha

Shusha, the former capital of the Karabakh Khanate, is not only a natural gem in the mountains of the Lesser Caucasus but also the cultural capital of Azerbaijan. The city is famous for its rich musical and literary heritage, as well as its unique carpet-weaving traditions. Ancient landmarks such as the Shusha Fortress, built in the 18th century by Panah Ali Khan, have been preserved here. The nature of Shusha is breathtaking at first glance. The view from Jidir Plain, a plateau in the southern part of the city, offers a stunning landscape of the Dashalty River valley and the Lesser Caucasus mountains. Among the city's historical monuments are the Gohar Agha Mosques, built at the end of the 19th century by the daughter of the Karabakh Khan. These mosques, known for their twin minarets, were damaged during the First Karabakh War but have been restored, and one of them – the Yukari (Upper) Gohar Agha Mosque – is now a national heritage site.
