Óbidos, an open-air museum, a medieval and romantic atmosphere preserved over the centuries with oriental influences and Baroque art, a true fairy tale where only knights and princesses are missing.
Peniche, full of remains that are over 180 million years old, centuries of remarkable history and occupied by various populations since prehistoric times. Based on the fishing industry and agriculture to this day, it was also once the bottom of the sea and is now connected to the mainland by an isthmus, thus ceasing to be an island and becoming a peninsula. Starting with the Lower Jurassic, we find fossils as a landmark of that period, limestone cliffs or a volcanic breccia. The medieval town of Óbidos is one of the most picturesque and well-preserved in Portugal, full of history and charm. Ever since King D. Dinis offered it to his wife D. Isabel, in the 13th century, it belonged to the House of Queens, who, over the course of several dynasties, gradually improved and enriched it. Within the walls, we find a well-preserved castle and a labyrinth of streets and white houses that enchant those who stroll through them, amidst Manueline porticos, flower-filled windows and small squares. The Igreja Matriz de Santa Maria, the Igreja da Misericórdia, the Igreja de São Pedro and the Pelourinho are some of the monuments that are worth a visit. 2Nazare
