Nevada's oldest and largest state park: 40,000 acres of Aztec sandstone laid down 150 million years ago and eroded into arches, domes and narrow washes. Your guide drives the park's scenic loop and stops wherever the rock and the light are worth it, explaining how the formations got their colour and how the Ancestral Puebloans lived here.
The park's signature arch, a short walk from the east entrance and shaped exactly like an elephant's head and trunk. It is the most photographed rock in Valley of Fire, and your guide knows the angle and the time of day that make the photo work.
A wide panorama of multicoloured sandstone - red, pink, white and orange in the same frame - looking out toward Fire Canyon and the Silica Dome. Flat, easy and a few steps from where we park, so everyone gets the view.
