This is a private cultural experience in a historic Istanbul caravanserai.
Led by a licensed local guide and the author of How to Read a Turkish Carpet, this private tour goes beyond a typical shopping experience. With a background in teaching, I help you discover how handmade Turkish carpets carry meaning through symbolism, natural dyes, and traditional weaving techniques.
You will learn to recognize quality, understand motifs and colors, and see the difference between decorative rugs and truly meaningful works.
There is no pressure to buy, only an invitation to understand. Each guest also receives a signed copy of How to Read a Turkish Carpet.

Meeting and pickup
Our meeting point is the German Fountain in the heart of Sultanahmet, just a few minutes’ walk from the Sultanahmet Tramway Station (T1 line). If arriving by taxi, ask to be dropped off at Sultanahmet Meydanı (German Fountain), a well-known landmark.

Explore its courtyards and arches while learning about its history and the art traditions it preserved. 2. Meet Master Weavers Watch artisans demonstrate traditional Turkish carpet weaving and silk making. Discover how natural dyes, patterns, and techniques have been passed down through generations. 3. Learn to Read a Carpet Drawing from my work as the author of How to Read a Turkish Carpet, I guide you through the meanings behind motifs, patterns, and colors. You begin to see carpets not as objects, but as a visual language shaped by culture and belief. 4. Conclude with a personalized presentation of fine Turkish carpets in a serene setting. I help you interpret each piece’s artistry and symbolism. More than shopping, it is a private journey into Turkish art, culture, and meaning, with no pressure to buy.
