Discover the Berber culture and life in the Atlas. The village of Imlil (1,740 m) is located in the centre of the High Atlas, almost in the shadow of Mount Toubkal (4,167 m), the highest point in northern Africa. The village has become the most popular starting point for big mountain climbs and a wide range of less demanding hikes and treks.

    Imlil

Imlil, in Morocco, is a perfect place to get away from it all in the Atlas Mountains. Compared to Marrakech, the Imlil region is cooler and quieter.

Once through the village, take a path that climbs through pine and juniper woods; Stop at Tizi to admire the valleys of Imlil and Imenane, the latter with its many Berber terraced villages precariously hidden on the slopes that surround you. All along with Adrar n'Oukaimeden (3268 m), almost as high as the Rockies, on the southern horizon, with the high peaks of Tizi n'Eddi (2928 m) and Jbel Angour (3616 m) also looming.

Continue hiking along the slopes of the Tamatert Valley until you reach your field picnic spot at Amghedoul, now surrounded right through by the Toubkal massif. Once refreshed, return to Douar Samra, towards the oldest Berber village in this once-isolated region, Tacheddirt, then via Ouaneskra and the other side of the valley, passing through the villages of Tamegguist and Tinghourine, with the upsetting Jbel Bou. Iguenouane (3882m), Tizi n'Likemt (3615m), Aksoual (3842m), and Azrou n'Tamadot (3664m) until a warm return to your accommodation in Marrakech.
