We embark on our journey along the N2 towards Stony Point, where we'll have the remarkable opportunity to observe African colony Penguins up close. This site hosts one of the largest penguin colonies in Africa. Stony Point Penguin Colony stands as a testament to one of the world's most successful breeding grounds for African Penguins. Located in the quaint coastal town of Betty’s Bay in the Overberg, the Stony Point Nature Reserve is home to a unique colony of African Penguins. It offers the public the chance to see these wonderful flightless birds up close, via the boardwalk through the colony, which allows the public to observe the penguins go about their daily activities in their natural habitat, without disturbing or disrupting them.

From there, we will travel towards the Hermanus where you will enjoy a wine tasting at one of the estates in the Hemel-en-Aarde wine region. Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate– one of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa and one of the closest to the sea – pioneered viticulture and winemaking in the beautiful, cool, maritime Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation, just behind the old fishing village of Hermanus.

Following that, we'll proceed to visit the Agulhas lighthouse, a renowned South African landmark that stands as one of the oldest in the country. Situated at the southernmost tip of Africa, it offers a fascinating glimpse into maritime history. A lighthouse at Cape Agulhas was suggested by Colonel Charles Collier Michell, the Surveyor-General of the Cape, in March 1837. A public meeting at Cape Town on 11 July 1840 resolved to raise funds for the construction of the lighthouse, and Michiel van Breda, the founder of Bredasdorp, offered to donate the land on which it was to be built.

After exploring the Agulhas National Park, We will head back to CapeTown city for a drop off at your accommodation at approximately 18:00 pm. Caledon is famous for its hot springs, discovered by the early Khoi-Khoi people before the Europeans attributed healing properties to the iron-rich waters and opened a sick house and later a sanatorium, which was destroyed by fire. The seven springs, one of which is cold and the other six thermal, are warmed by contact with rocks heated by pressure deep under the ground to a steady temperature of 49.5° Celsius. Interestingly, the waters of Caledon are also free of any organic matter and when submitted, in 1893, to the Chicago World Fair, they were awarded first prize as the world’s top quality mineral waters.
