We will transfer you to Kohatu (45 minute drive) with the bikes and you will cycle back to our base in Tahunanui.

The Spooner’s Tunnel tour is an unforgettable day ride, taking you on a thrilling downhill journey through lush forests, rolling farmland, a historic tunnel, and alongside meandering rivers

Your adventure begins with a shuttle into the scenic Tasman hills, dropping you off in the heart of hop country at Flat Rock Café, Kohatu—the perfect spot to enjoy a freshly brewed coffee and a delicious cheese scone before setting off

From here, a breathtaking 50km off-road trail awaits, with plenty of exhilarating downhill stretches leading back to Nelson. Following the historic railway route, you’ll find informative panels along the way, detailing the fascinating rise and fall of this once-vital transport link.

The landscape is wonderfully diverse, taking you past verdant hop plantations, native forests, boutique wineries, and fertile market gardens. The Waimea Plains are a patchwork of thriving crops and stunning natural beauty, offering plenty of picture-perfect moments

A highlight of the journey is the ride through Spooner’s Tunnel—at 1.4 km, it’s the longest cycle tunnel in the southern hemisphere!
