A night jungle trek is like no other. Fantastic atmosphere, extraordinary creatures. Only someone who's been on one knows that. A dense, humid, sultry dark black jungle, broken only by the light of our headlamps and torches, and here and there we come across special animals, either resting or hunting at night. Night lemurs, special dwarf and other chameleons, night geckos, giant snakes, etc...
And, if that's not enough, sleeping in the middle of a national park in a well-kept jungle, woken up by the cries of lemur families and falling asleep among the sounds of the jungle, is like being in a nature movie.
And on top of that, there's the chance to relax on a completely private sandy beach, snorkel on the coral reefs and even try paddling a traditional Malagasy canoe.
We can pick you up anywhere in Nosy Be also other than the hotels on this list. Fossa Travel also has special permition to pick up the guests directly in the port deck when a cruiser ship arrives. Whether we pick up you up from your hotel or bungalow, or you come to our office, the departure is always from our office in the main square of Hell-Ville. There we will take whatever you may need (e.g. snorkel equipment and tanks, sunscreen, hammock, etc.) and host you for a Malagasy tea, coffee or refreshment juice before departure while explaining the day's programme.
We will arrive by boat after noon at Djema resort's fabulous sandy beach on the south side of Lokobe National Park. The owner Steve and his family are waiting for us with refreshments and fresh tropical fruits from the garden. You're likely to see families of lemurs in the trees around Djema, and often, also there are lemurs resting during the day in the palm dome of the communal dining room. There's time to snorkel the coral reef off Djema or visit the neighbouring native village. After sunset, our guides will arrive and our 2-3 hour adventure in the jungle at night will sart! By the light of head and flashlights, we can admire the day animals resting peacefully in the jungle trees and the hunting nocturnal animals. You will meet mouse and other nocturnal lemurs, geckos, dwarf and other chameleons, snakes, spiders and more. After the tour we will be treated to a Malagasy seafood dinner. Then head to our puritan but cosy bungalow in the beautifully manicured tropical gardens of Djema.
Wake up to a fresh, hearty breakfast in the communal dining room on the fabulous sandy beach. Fantastic views of the ocean and Nosy Komba Island opposite. Then there are more options. Accompanied by Steve's brother, you can try a traditional Madagascan canoe and a good paddle over the coral reefs along the national park's coast. You can also just sunbathe. And you can snorkel on the coral reefs, swimming in directly from the shore or jumping in from the canoe, in several places. (on request we can provide full snorkel equipment from our office, in all sizes) And if that wasn't enough, in addition you can also choose a shorter, 1-1.5 hour day jungle trek! Shortly before noon, our speedboat arrives, we say goodbye to the Djema and head back to the marina in Hell Village and from there to your hotel.
