We depart from Cape Town at 8am and travel to the R62 Wine Route, a very scenic route with many wine farms and other beautiful features to see and enjoy. The R62 Wine Route runs concurrently with the Cape Route 62, a ‘tourist’ route, which follows the less-travelled, shorter and vastly more scenic regional R62 road from Cape Town, through the Klein Karoo and the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth. We have opportunities to taste wines at different farms along this route.
We travel until we reach Knysna where we base ourselves as we explore the Garden Route area. With so many things to see and do in Knysna it is one of the top holiday destinations in the Garden Route, South Africa. Families making memories, adventure seekers find their thrill with a variety of outdoor experiences, and affordable luxury and exclusive activities await the discerning traveller. Discover the sandy beaches and forest trails, explore the area and rich cultural heritage, and experience what makes Knysna one of the not-to-be-missed locations in the Western Cape.
We go to Addo Elephant National Park, the 3rd largest game reserve in South Africa, a special game reserve with the larges herd of elephant in South Africa. Addo Elephant National Park is the third largest game reserve in the country after recent incorporation of further adjoining land. The South African game reserve is famous among tourist for its large elephant herds that graze on the vegetation and parade in a calm manner. You can witness these marvellous creatures by simply travelling to one of the waterholes, which is a hot spot for elephants. The game reserve is also famous for viewing the Big 5.
From Addo Elephant National Park we go to the Bloukrans Bridge. Here is where there is the world's highest bungy jump at 216m. You can also do some sky-walking tour at an optional cost of $20-00
We go to Robberg Nature Reserve where we do some hiking. At Robberg Nature Reserve, choose to hike the different trails, each with its own degree of difficulty, but all with unique beauty and scenery. This experience is unlike any other coastal encounter. The history of this place and the animal kingdom is otherworldly and once you have been, you are likely to return again and again. The island adjacent to the peninsula is filled with lizards soaking up the sun and below, the waves crash against the rocks propelling rainbows of water spray into the air. The eastern side of the reserve gets the hot sun blazing down upon it, so lots of seals and dassies have made this side their home.
Plettenberg Bay, one of the most beautiful costal towns with some of the best beaches. Here we visit one of the famous beaches and spend some time relaxing. Plettenberg Bay is truly the jewel of The Garden Route, situated about 210kms from Port Elizabeth and +/- 600km from Cape Town. Originally christened “Bahia Formosa”, meaning Beautiful Bay, by early Portuguese explorers, Plettenberg Bay offers holiday makers a wonderful holiday experience. The town has miles of sweeping golden beaches, the dramatic Robberg Peninsula, intriguing lagoons and estuaries, indigenous forests and unpolluted rivers and sea to entice visitors.
We visit Knysna Heads for lots of iconic view sites and photo opportunities. Separated by around 300 metres of water, The Knysna Heads are the headlands of two peninsulas that enclose and form the Knysna River Estuary. Formed over geological time beginning as far back as the break-up of the supercontinent, Gondwana, during the Jurassic, 180 million years ago.
The Knysna Quays Waterfront is a place to chill, a place to relax, or to shop or enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants here.
We drive to Cape Agulhas, the southern most town in Africa. Here we take a tour of the town and the beaches around.
From Cape Agulhas we travel to Hermanus where we spend the night
Hermanus, one of the most beautiful costal towns. Here we go whale watching after breakfast - in season. Beautiful Hermanus is a South African seaside town that’s a popular whale-watching site. An initial visit to the Old Harbour Museum will acquaint you with the area’s rich fishing history. Stretched along a narrow ribbon of land between towering mountains and a spectacular shoreline, Hermanus is surrounded by nature in her grandest style. First established as a farming community, this sunny well-located town remains a popular holiday hub.
At Benguela Cove Wine Estate we taste 5 different top wines. Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate is a low yield farm, focused on producing premium estate wines. This is one of the top wind producers in South Africa. There is so much to see and do when you visit Benguela Cove. With attractions for guests of all ages to enjoy.
At Betty's Bay we see the endangered African Penguins. Located in the quaint coastal town of Betty's Bay in the Overberg, the Stony Point Nature Reserve is home to a unique colony of African Penguins. Stony Point offers the public the chance to see these wonderful flightless birds up close, via the boardwalk through the colony, which allows the public to observe the penguins go about their daily activities in their natural habitat, without disturbing or disrupting them.
From Betty's Bay we go on the most scenic Whale Coast Route as we head towards Cape Town to conclude our 5 day tour, arriving in Cape Town late afternoon at around 6pm.
