    Vindolanda

    The Vindolanda Roman Fort is one of the best preserved, and most important Roman sites in the world. Archaeological excavations are still ongoing on this site, and the museum features a unique set of Roman artifacts, including a huge collection of shoes, the only Roman boxing gloves in the world, a toy sword and a toilet seat. You can also see the Vindolanda Tablets - considered by many as the most important Roman find of the 20th century, allowing a unique insight into the lives of people living at Vindolanda near Hadrian's Wall nearly 2000 years ago.

    Steel Rigg and Crag Lough is a stunning viewpoint of Hadrian's Wall. Here, you can take a picture of the ruins of the wall disappearing into the distance, and imagine what it would have looked like nearly 2000 years ago when it was built.

    Bamburgh Castle

    The stunning Bamburgh Castle has stood upon a volcanic rock for 1,400 years, having been built by the early Anglo-Saxon kings of Northumberland. In recent years, it featured in the Last Kingdom novels and hit TV-series by Bernard Cornwell, and you can see a display of costumes and props from the series in the castle. It is still one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK.
