The on-site museum showcases incredible finds, including leather shoes, writing tablets, and personal items preserved for nearly 2,000 years.

Begin your Hadrian’s Wall adventure at Steel Rigg car park, one of the most breathtaking viewpoints along the Wall. From here, enjoy a short walk across rolling hills and dramatic landscapes to the iconic Sycamore Gap, where the once iconic lone tree stood framed by ancient Roman stonework. This stretch captures the true spirit of Northumberland — peaceful, rugged, and steeped in history.

Experience the untamed beauty of Kielder Forest, one of Europe’s largest man-made woodlands and home to some of Northumberland’s most spectacular scenery. Take on the Kielder Forest Drive, a 12-mile (19 km) off-road route that winds through dense pine forests, open moorland, and stunning hilltop viewpoints — a true driver’s adventure. Keep an eye out for red squirrels, deer, and birds of prey as you travel through this peaceful wilderness. At night, Kielder transforms into one of the best stargazing spots in the world — part of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, where you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye.

It’s the perfect stop to unwind and experience Northumbrian hospitality at its best. This is one of our favourite attractions.

Cross the tidal causeway to reach the enchanting Holy Island of Lindisfarne, one of Northumberland’s most iconic and spiritual destinations. Accessible only at low tide, the island offers a sense of adventure as you drive across the sands following the safe crossing times. Explore the historic Lindisfarne Priory, discover Lindisfarne Castle perched dramatically on a rocky outcrop, and wander through the quaint village known for its famous mead and breathtaking coastal views.
