Our Yoga and Trekking retreat is a beautiful opportunity to connect with oneself and our sense of community simply by walking in nature and practicing yoga.
Happening in a serene complex in the mountains of the lower Himalayas, this retreat is an opportunity for you to disconnect with your routine, unwind, and connect to yourself. It wishes to give you a safe space to improve your physical, mental, and emotional health in a cozy and relaxed ambiance.
In this 8-day retreat, we will experiment with the basic principles of yoga's physical and mental practices, such as Asana and Pranayama, Yoga Therapy, and Yoga philosophy.
The Yogic exploration will be enriched by the beauty of the Indian Himalayas during an accessible but impressive trek to the Chandrashila summit at sunrise. Not only will you have the chance to be surrounded by stunning landscapes, but you’ll also experience how contact with nature can have a magnificent effect on your physical and mental well-being.
We will meet the participants at the moment of departure in front of the Japam Yoga Treks and Tours office in Upper Tapovan. The location is available on Google Maps. Please contact us if you can't find it.
We will meet in Tapovan in the morning of our first day and take our car to the location of the retreat.
Devprayag is the confluence point where the Alakhnanda and the Bagirathi rivers meet and form the Ganga River. On our way to Himalayan River Garden, we will stop to see the beauty of the blue and brown rivers joining to create the Holi River Ganga. We will take time to take some picture and maybe enjoy a chai before continuing our route towards Chopta.
Dea Avnova, our eco-friendly accommodation for the retreat, is located in the Koteshwar Village, near Chopta. It is a permaculture farm and eco-resort and we'll have the chance to be spending 5 nights at its stunning location. We'll be having daily practices of Hatha Yoga and Pranayama, and discussions about the philosophy of Yoga. We'll enjoy the location, go out on nature and village walks, take baths in natural pools and rivers, and will enjoy fresh and delicious home-cooked meals.
This day, we'll be staying in Dea Avnova and start officially our yoga journey. After waking up, we'll have a Pranayama session and Hatha Yoga practice, followed by a delicious and nutritious breakfast. Our camp for the trek is near the Deoriya Tal, an alpine lake with an amazing view on the Chaukhomba peak. We will go to bed early, as tomorrow we have a great day of trekking to do.
We will wake up early in our camp in Deoriya Tal and have breakfast there. Today is a long day of walk, but the path is absolutely stunning. We'll be walking on the mountain ridge offering an amazing view over the Himalayan Range. Some parts of the way are in the forest and you'll be surrounded by a lush jungle. We will have lunch on the way and connect with nature during a short Yoga Nidra session.
We'll be reaching our camp in Chopta at the end of the afternoon. On arrival at the camp, we'll take time to rest and have some snacks and chai. For those interested, we'll be doing a short and light Hatha Yoga practice, to connect with the place and shake away the effort of the walk. We'll have dinner at the camp and enjoy this time to be all together and discuss. We will go to bed early, as tomorrow is the day where we reach the Chandrashila summit at sunrise.
On our sixth day, we will wake up around 4am and get ready to climb 5km to the summit. Our goal today is to reach the Chandrashila Summi for the sunrise. That will require some effort, but you'll be rewarded, we promise!
The Chandrashila summit, or the Moon Rock, is a peak in the Himalayas located at 3,700mtrs. We'll be hiking a steep 5km from Chopta, at the light of our torch and the moon, to reach the summit for sunrise. Absolutely stunning, the 360* view from the top as the sun rises from the Himalayan Range will reward you from your effort. You can see the Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhomba, and many other famous and impressive peaks all around. There might be snow at the top, which gives the trek a touch of magic. Depending on the weather and temperature at the top, we'll have a short meditation and/or Pranayama session. We'll have warm tea and coffee with us and will enjoy the view as long as we want before coming down.
On the way down from the summit, we'll stop by the Tungnath temple. This is the highest Shiva Temple in India and has a beautiful architecture. You'll have time to visit the temple and the views of the mountains surrounding it.
After the visit of the Tungnath Temple, we'll head back towards our camp in Chopta, where we will have a late breakfast/lunch. We will then pack our bags and take our car back to the Himalayan River Garden.
We'll be back after our trek to our comfortable accommodation at the Dea Avnova complex. We'll have a light lunch there and take time to rest from our early morning efforts. Those interested can have a private yoga therapy session at that time. Others can enjoy the resort and spend their time in any way. We will meet again for dinner and take the time to discuss and connect all together.
