Pickup details:

Location Name: Departure location is at the tourism office of Ponta Delgada, in the center of the city. Location Address: The pickup/departure location is located at the left side of the square center where there is the Portas da Cidade monument from Ponta Delgada. Return Location: The tour will finish on the same location as the departure.

What to expect

If you are staying in Ponta Delgada, the pickup will at the tourism office of Ponta Delgada which is at the center of the city. If you're staying outside the city, there will be a small surcharge for pick-up. Pick-up time will be at 9am.

The transport for the group is a climate-controlled van of 9 seats to ensure comfort. Having a small group will also make the tour much more pleasing and friendlier.

The first drive will take the group along the south shore, stopping at Povoação village which is the very first settlement of the island. The group will have a stop of 30 minutes to explore the humble square center and to use the nearest toilet before the group starts the guided walk around the town.

Then another short drive to Faial da Terra, the parish where the walking trail starts. After the first 35 minutes of walking up to the hill, you'll enter the abandoned Sanguinho town, a traditional Azorean settlement. Later on, the group will reach the Salto do Prego waterfall, one of the highlights of the day. It is here where the group will take time to have a picnic lunch, to rest and enjoy the pristine environment. There is also the possibility for a swim, if you choose.

Coming back to Ponta Delgada, the group will pass shortly by Furnas parish and returning by way of the north shore to enjoy a different sightseeing route.

Total length of the trail is ~6km, with a medium difficulty.
