This tour is all about the amazing contributions that Americans have made for over 250 years to Britain which have mostly gone unnoticed or taken for granted.

The tour is created and delivered by Lisa of Eclectic Tours who has lived in London for 17 years and counting.

    Trafalgar Square / Embankment

    Following introduction outside Wyndham's Theatre in the heart of the West End, we go to Trafalgar Square and Embankment to meet several American Founding Fathers and learn about their relationship to Britain before and after the American Revolutionary War

    At Whitehall, we learn about how the British saw Americans and other non-Brits as we stop at Banqueting House and then the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, which was originally the Colonial Office established to to deal with the American colonies.

    St. James' Square

    At St James' Square, we go to the former Norfolk House and first hear about General Dwight D Eisenhauer and Americans who came over during WWII.

    Spencer House

    At Spencer House, we meet the American Dollar Princesses who came over to gain respectability and titles in exchange for helping to prop up the cash poor aristocracy. Find out just how much and how extensive this phenomena was in the late 19th to early 20th century.

    Berkeley Square

    At the current Lansdowne Club on corner of Berkeley Square lived three men crucial to the establishment of America, inventing modern department stores, and supporting philanthropy.

    Selfridges

    At our final stop, we look at the department store that changed the way shopping was done in Britain. Many people do not realise the store was established by an American retail giant Harry Gordon Selfridge. They simply thought it was British like so many other things.
