08:20 AM: Meet Your Local Guide Meet your local guide at the meeting point before setting off for a relaxed morning in the countryside.
08:30 AM: Into the Valley A short transfer takes you to the starting point, avoiding the main road so you can spend more time on the quieter trails. Cross a suspension bridge into Ban Cong Village and begin walking along riverside paths through the countryside. As you walk, your guide will introduce you to some of the plants and foods that are part of everyday life here from sweet leaf vegetables and jackfruit to pickled eggplant, betel leaves and areca nuts.
You’ll also start to notice something that is hard to miss in Pu Luong: bamboo is part of life everywhere. It has long been used for bridges, houses, baskets and farming tools. Along the trail, you’ll see how this simple plant becomes part of the landscape and daily life. Continue along the river to the giant bamboo water wheels, ingenious structures built by local communities to move water from the stream to the rice fields.
From here, board a traditional bamboo raft and paddle gently upstream with local boatmen. The raft is another simple example of how bamboo has been adapted to life around the rivers and rice fields. After crossing the river, leave the raft behind and continue through rice fields and village paths. Along the way, your guide can share more about local farming, bamboo and the small things that make up everyday life in the valley including a rare mountain fish once reserved for kings and wealthy families. The walk ends at the main road, where your driver will be waiting to take you back.
