In this tucked-away corner of Japan, you’ll experience the excitement of Japanese archery, the austere and subtle delectability of traditional Buddhist cuisine, the serenity Japanese tea ceremony, and get hands-on with the ancient and intimate agricultural practices kept alive by the passionate farmers of rural Japan.

This is not just a tour — it’s a conversation with the countryside, a chance to laugh over a shared meal, sip stories from a clay cup, meet and make real connections with Japanese villagers, and see beyond the guidebooks to the soft and splendid reality of Japan.

Traditional Buddhist Vegan Meal

Shojin Ryori (精進料理) is a course meal of a variety of small dishes. Dishes are subject to seasonal availability and cannot be substituted.

Pick up vehicle will depend on group size. Staff will be holding a sign with your group's name on it.

What to expect

Get out of the city and witness life int he Japanese countryside - where traditional culture and community are living and breathing.

You'll be picked up from your station of choice and driven high into the verdant Hiroshima hinterlands. (approx. 30 min drive)

Once there you'll be guided through the basics of Kyudo - the martial art of archery. You'll then be given the opportunity to test your mettle with the targets scattered throughout our pristine forest. (approx. 1.5hrs)

From there you'll settle in for authentic Buddhist cuisine with the local farmers that made it possible as the significance behind every plate and ingredient is revealed. (approx. 1hr)

Afterwards, you'll enjoy a scenic walking tour through the local village and rice fields. (approx. 30 mins)

Ending with your ride back to the starting station. (approx. 30 min drive)

OR turn it into an all-day event and dive even deeper into the local culture through activities like seasonal vegetable pickling workshop, mochi pounding, homemade miso soup making, or Japanese tea ceremony and tasting in rice fields.
