    Qala Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Complex

    The Gala State Historical Ethnographic Reserve is a complex of museums in Baku, Azerbaijan. Inside there are three different types of museums: Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography (open-air), Castle Museum (partly open-air), and the Museum of Antiques. The museum is 1.5 ha in area and has rock paintings, pottery, household items, jewelry, weapons and coins belong to the ancient times of Azerbaijan. In this museum, there are more than 2,000 different archaeological and architectural monuments – mounds, seats of ancient settlements, burial places dating back to thousands of years ago. As a result of archaeological excavations, it is feasible to get the picture of the lifestyle of the Azerbaijani people from ancient times to the Middle Ages. It is a 30-minute drive from the city center to here. We spend 90 minutes at least here and then heading to Carpet Museum situated 30 minutes far away from the Gala Reserve.

    Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum

    After witnessing the alive weaving process of Absheron carpets in the Gala Reserve, we will visit the Carpet Museum where all carpet weaving art samples of Azerbaijan from the Middle Ages to the present are exhibited. The collection of the museum includes over 10,000 items of ceramics, metal works of the 14th century, jewellery from the Bronze Age, carpets and carpet items from the 17th-20th centuries, national garments and embroidery, and applied art works of the Modern Age. The structure of the building is intended to look like a rolled carpet.

    The Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography is a museum in Baku, Azerbaijan, that was established in 1976 in Old City. In 2008 the museum underwent restoration works and increased the number of its exhibitions to 2000 artefacts. Museum exhibits the real archaeological findings covering all stages of Azerbaijani's cultural development, its culture from the Stone Age to the late Middle Ages. The museum's exhibitions give detailed information about the sites of primitive people, living houses on the territory of Azerbaijan, settlements belonging to cattle breeders and farmers, historical and material culture of ancient states, gravestone monuments, Azerbaijani arts of ancient times, economy, lifestyle, moral values of ancestors of the Azerbaijani people. Guests spend here 20 minutes with guide explanation, then continue to Gobustan at least 1 hour from the Old City.

    After seeing the archaeological and ethnographic materials and getting complete information about them, heading to the achaeological site itself to experience the realities of the ancient times in Gobustan region. Gobustan Museum of Petroglyphs, an indoor and outdoor museum located approximately 65 kilometers (1 hour way distance) from Baku. Our expert guide will give you detailed information in the Museum and Rock Art Open Air Museum about marvel at prehistoric rock drawings and petroglyphs which were carved by primitive men on walls of caves and on rocks, reflecting the culture, economy, and world outlook of the ancient Azerbaijani people. General tour duration takes 90 minutes in this area. We complete the tour here and return back to the hotel or meeting meeting point. General tour duration with driving distance and sightseeing activities covers 6-7 hours.
