What to expect
Take part in a hands-on bagel-making workshop at Fairway Market’s 74th Street Café on the Upper West Side. Learn the traditional techniques that make New York bagels world-famous and roll your own fresh creations.
Guided by a bagel expert, you’ll master the rope-and-loop rolling method, boil, seed, and bake your bagels.
As your bagels bake, you’ll also uncover the history of the bagel from its Polish origins to its rise as a New York City icon. You’ll hear stories about The Bagel Bakers Union, the invention of the bagel machine, a Bagel Wedding(???) and more.
Finally, you’ll enjoy your freshly baked bagels with gourmet spreads, smoked fish, and classic accompaniments. The experience ends with a light-hearted bagel trivia quiz to see what you’ve learned. You’ll take home the bagels you’ve made yourself, along with the skills, knowledge, and a recipe to make them again.
