The Coromandel Region is famous for the white beaches, native bush and steep and hilly terrain. The peninsula is a popular place to live for people who have chosen an alternative lifestyle with towns sparse. Population density decreases with both distance from the coast and distance north
Naturally heated mineral water bubbles up from deep within the earth to emerge through golden sand at the appropriately named Hot Water Beach. dig your own spa pool in the sand. We will visit when it's two hours either side of low tide, as that's when the tide is low enough to expose the area of sand with the hot water underneath. Don't forget to bring along your swimming gear and good walking shoes- we have the spades. It's certainly a unique experience to be lying in a pool of hot water just metres from the refreshing ocean.
Arguably, New Zealand’s most famous patch of sand, Cathedral Cove is renowned for its picture-perfect archway that frames a stunning beach of creamy white sand and bright emerald waters. As part of the Marine Reserve, a sanctuary for marine life, it is also an ideal spot for snorkelling and diving. The Cathedral Cove Walk is the shortest walking route to the cove and takes about 30 minutes to complete. The track follows the cliff-tops overlooking the coastline, before descending steeply as it nears the beach. This requires a moderate level of fitness and the pathway does undulate up and down
