Your journey begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, followed by a scenic drive to Marangu Gate (1,870m). After registration at Kilimanjaro National Park, you start your hike through dense rainforest filled with towering trees, moss, and wildlife such as colobus monkeys. The trail is well-defined and gently ascending, offering a comfortable introduction to the climb. After 4–5 hours of hiking (8 km / 5 miles), you will arrive at Mandara Hut (2,720m), where you will have dinner and overnight stay in mountain huts surrounded by forest.
After breakfast, you leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone, characterized by open landscapes, giant heathers, and unique plants like giant lobelias. The trail gradually climbs with spectacular views of Mawenzi Peak and, on clear days, Kibo Peak. This section takes about 6–7 hours (12 km / 7.5 miles). You will reach Horombo Hut (3,720m) in the afternoon, where you can relax, acclimatize, and enjoy panoramic mountain views. Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Today’s trek takes you into the alpine desert zone, where vegetation becomes sparse and the landscape turns dramatic and rugged. The trail crosses the Saddle, a wide plateau between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, offering stunning, otherworldly scenery. This challenging but steady hike takes approximately 6–7 hours (10 km / 6.2 miles). Upon arrival at Kibo Hut (4,700m), you will rest, have an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt. Overnight at Kibo Hut.
Your summit push begins around midnight, trekking under the stars with headlamps toward Gilman’s Point (5,685m), then continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. This is the most demanding day, taking 6–8 hours to reach the summit (6 km / 3.7 miles) and another 6–7 hours descending back to Horombo Hut (16 km / 10 miles total descent). Reaching the summit rewards you with breathtaking sunrise views above the clouds. After celebrating your achievement, you descend to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, you begin your final descent through the moorland and back into the lush rainforest. This relaxing hike takes about 5–6 hours (20 km / 12.4 miles). Upon arrival at Marangu Gate, you will receive your summit certificate and celebrate your successful climb. You will then be transferred back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, marking the end of your incredible Kilimanjaro adventure.
