Local beer sommelier Carien will take your through the history of Belgian beer. With examples of beers from the past and present, we will show you how beer changed throughout the 20th and 21st century.
A surprising workshop to celebrate 10 years of Unesco recognition for the Belgian beer culture! Carien will spoil you with tasty beer samples and delicious snacks, all in her cozy private tasting room.
When you book this tour we will message you about the starting time. The time frames given for each day are the hours between which we can start the workshop, generally between noon and latest start time 8pm. We will finalise the exact start time upfront together with you.
What's Included
Meeting and pickup
No need to print your ticket. Just come to Hoppiness Brussels at Avenue de Jette 154 and ring the black doorbell. Please be a few minutes early so we can start on time.
What to expect
Local Beer Sommelier Carien will take you through the history of Belgian beer, illustrated, of course, with delicious beer tasters taking you through the changing beer flavours of the 20th and 21st century.
You will learn things like:
What beers did people drink around 1900?
Which beers from 100 years ago are still around?
What is an Abbey beer and what is a Trappist beer?
Why do the Belgians have so many different beer glasses?
Which beers can age well and why?
We will also do a comparative tasting between a young and an aged Orval, so you can discover what happens during the aging of this beer.
The workshop will be held in the cozy private Hoppiness tasting room, full of beautiful beer decorations.
Questions about beer are encouraged!
Children may be brought but we need to know in advance. Please message us if you want to come with children/ minors so we can work out a food and drink plan for them together.
