The Isle of Mull is a must-see location in Scotland. It has an abundance of scenery, culture and wildlife and is the second biggest island in the Inner Hebrides. Not only that, but Mull was blessed with fantastic neighbouring islands. ‘Iona’ is famous for being a centre for the Christian faith and ‘Staffa’ for its curious rock formations and colony of puffins that visit every year for breeding.
We will pick you up at the chosen location in Edinburgh, Glasgow or surrounding area
Arriving at Kelpies which are monumental 100ft steel structures affectionately known as Baron and Duke you will learn a little bit about Scotland’s Folklore. We will spend around 20-30 minutes here before hopping back into the tour van and onto Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.
Arriving in Stirling you can’t help but notice the castle sitting aloft on top of the volcanic craggy rock. It is one of the largest and most historically and architecturally important castles in Scotland with a tempestuous past. A royal residence for many Kings and Queens it has had its fair share of battles over the last 800 years with the most recent siege taking place in the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion where you can still spot the cannon fire on the castle walls Your guide will tell you about the local history. There is an option to visit the interior of this castle if you would like to edit the tour and take out Inveraray Castle Interior visit
Trossachs National Park: Stop at Loch Lomond, specifically the conservation village of Luss, famous for its cottages, views, and pier.
If the opportunity arises we will make a photo stop at the top off Glen Croe
Argyle and Bute: Continue west, passing through Clan Campbell country, stopping at Inverary Castle (time to visit the castle or explore the town). We will visit the Castle for photos which will have no cost. Any interior visit may be possible but would be booked directly at the castle if you decide you would like to visit the interior.
Loch Awe: Drive along Scotland’s longest freshwater loch, stopping at St Conan’s Kirk.
Time to stop to see this marvellous Kirk voted as one of the top 10 buildings in Scotland over the last century.
Arriving into the final stop of the day we will have some free time to explore the town after being dropped off at the overnight accommodation. Option to visit the distillery (Oban)
Ferry to Mull: Travel to Craignure, then drive south to Fionnphort to access Iona
Iona: Explore the mystical island, a site of Christian pilgrimage since 563 AD. Visit St Oran’s Chapel and Reilig Òdhrain, the burial place of 48 ancient Scottish kings, including Macbeth. Optional Walk: Up Torr an Aba, above St Columba’s writing hut. We will allocate around 3 hours to explore this island and you could decide on the day you wish to visit the Abbey which is not included in the tour cost and would be booked on the day at the Abbey.
Ending the day in Tobermory
-Flexible Options: Visit Duart Castle, Eas Fors Falls, Calgary Bay, Isle of Mull Cheese Factory (tours available), Isle of Ulva, Salen shipwrecks, and Tobermory Whisky Distillery. -Customise: Options can be discussed and finalised during booking
-Ferry Crossings: Cross the ‘Sound of Mull’ to Lochaline, then a short ferry to Corran (Scotland’s shortest crossing).
-Glencoe: Drive through this spectacular glen, then across the remote Rannoch Moor.
-Optional Stops: Falls of Dochart and see Highland Cows (‘Hairy Coos’) at Kilmahog.
We can add this onto the last day editing the previous route if the ferry availability allows.
