  • De Waag (Pass by)

    In the past, De Waag was the center of trade. There has been a weigh house in Leeuwarden since 1483, but the current weigh house building was constructed around 1595. De Waag was in use until 1880, after which weighing took place in the Beurs- en waaggebouw (Stock Exchange and Weighing Building) at Beursplein. Nowadays, the weigh house building houses a cozy lunchroom with a sunny terrace.

  • De Oldehove (Pass by)

    When visiting Leeuwarden, you must not miss the city's iconic landmark: the Oldehove. The tower was built in 1529 and leans more than the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Admire it from both the inside and outside, and once you reach the top, you'll have a beautiful view over the city.

    Until ten years ago, the Blokhuispoort still served as a penitentiary, but nowadays, it has been transformed into a cultural business center.     The church is dedicated to Saint Boniface and was built in 1882/84 according to a design by the architect P.J.H. Cuypers. The church is not very old, but it is very beautiful. The interior of the Catholic church is richly decorated with painted wall panels, as many as five altars, enormous stained glass windows, and numerous unique ornaments.
