Inside a ceremonial hall located deep within Meiji Jingu, you'll experience Gagaku, one of the world's oldest orchestral music traditions, together with a graceful Miko shrine maiden dance, all from up close.

This is an authentic and time-honored Japanese tradition.

The guest who takes part in this ceremony is deeply moved by the uniquely Japanese sounds, the grandeur of the palace-like hall, the beauty of the traditional Japanese attire, and more.

Unfortunately, photography is not allowed inside the shrine hall, so I can't show you what it looks like here. Please come and experience this elegant, beautiful, and breathtaking world with your own eyes.

You won't just watch this ceremony—you'll take part in it.

You'll write your own prayer in Japanese and personally hand it to a Miko shrine maiden before joining the ceremony. We will, of course, provide full support throughout.

We promise an experience you'll want to share with your family and friends after returning home.

Itinerary

Duration: 1 hour (approximately)

    Meiji Jingu Kaguraden

    1) Meet in front of the Kaguraden Hall, the ceremonial hall located deep within Meiji Jingu. 2) You will write your application form in Japanese by yourself. The guide will assist you. 3) You will personally hand your application form and prayer offering to a shrine maiden. Your guide will assist you, but we encourage you to complete the process yourself as much as possible so that you can experience Japanese culture. 4) In the waiting area of the ceremonial hall, your guide will explain the ceremony and etiquette before it begins. 5) During the prayer ceremony, you will witness Gagaku, Japanese court music recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage, and a Miko dance performed by shrine maidens dressed in beautiful traditional attire. (20 min.) 6) After the ceremony, you will receive a sacred prayer talisman containing your wish and drink omiki (sacred sake) served by a shrine maiden. 7) Finally, your guide will help you take photos in front of the Kaguraden Hall.
